Rowing
Rowing is an exciting and developing sport at Dollar Academy, offering pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves both physically and mentally while learning valuable teamwork, discipline and resilience.
Through strong partnerships within the local community, we have been able to expand opportunities for our pupils and build on the success we have already achieved in the Scottish Rowing Indoor Schools League and Championships.
Throughout the year, pupils develop their fitness, technique and rowing knowledge using rowing machines, with regular training sessions helping them build a strong foundation in the sport.
The work completed indoors has provided an excellent platform for progression, allowing pupils to make a smooth transition from land-based training to on-water rowing during the summer term. Pupils have enjoyed taking part in performance training sessions on the River Tay in Perth.
They have developed essential rowing skills while gaining confidence on the water in a safe and supportive environment. Training has included a range of boat classes, from single sculls for beginners through to racing doubles and quadruple sculls, giving pupils experience of both individual and crew-based rowing.
Looking ahead, we are ambitious about the future of rowing at Dollar Academy. We aim to continue expanding the programme, increasing participation and creating opportunities for pupils to compete regularly.
Rowing is an excellent sport for pupils of all abilities, combining fitness, technical skill, teamwork and personal challenge. We look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and developing a thriving rowing programme for years to come.
