“It was such an honour to be have my music performed among such creative new pieces, and it was truly an experience I will never forget.”

We were delighted to hear that Sarah Corr (FP 2024), who is studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, was given the opportunity to travel to Reykjavik, Iceland, to hear her work performed.

She recently spoke to us about her experience, which you can read below.

“In March of 2025, I was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in a project with Drake Music Scotland, as well as one other RCS student and a recent graduate.”

We were commissioned to write a piece of music for SATB choir, harp, and a solo Baritone, and – the most exciting part – these new works would be premiered in Reykjavík in Iceland, as part of the Operudagar Festival in October 2025.

Three Masters students from the Icelandic conservatoire would also be contributing new music for this concert, and over several Zoom meetings, it was a privilege to hear their ideas.

“Over the summer, I started composing with support from the amazing Baritone Colin Levin, who performed my work, and the composer Stefan Sand, who conducted and organised the concert.”

I chose the Emily Dickinson poem ‘Time Does Go On’ to base my music around, I believe it went together very well. I was fortunate enough to be able to fly over to Iceland in October where we had several rehearsals in Harpa – the beautiful concert venue in the heart of Reykjavík.

Meeting the other composers and performers was amazing – I even managed to sneak in some sightseeing, and I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. The premiere was very well attended by family members, festival attendees as well as several tourists who were curious about the music!

It was such an honour to be have my music performed among such creative new pieces, and it was truly an experience I will never forget.
