Dollar Academy Launches Scotland’s Only Independent School Triathlon Programme

“The school is perfectly placed to deliver a sector-leading triathlon programme.”

We are delighted to have officially launched a ground-breaking Triathlon Programme, becoming the only private school in Scotland to offer a full triathlon curriculum. Designed to develop swimming, cycling, and running skills in a structured environment, the programme aims to foster a lifelong passion for sport among its pupils.

At its heart, the programme isn’t just about competing. We place “Sport for Life” at the centre of our philosophy – we believe that the discipline, fitness, and mindset developed through triathlon training will benefit students well beyond their school years.

“We have some of the best natural surroundings in the world.”

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Ochil Hills, Dollar Academy’s campus offers the perfect natural terrain for triathlon training. The landscape includes cycle paths, running trails, and secluded lochs for open-water sessions.

Leading the programme is Sean McFarlane, one of Scotland’s premier long-distance triathletes and adventure racers. With 24 Ironman races and multiple podium finishes to his name, Sean brings world-class experience both as an athlete and coach.

The programme is structured into two levels, each tailored to different athlete ambitions:

  • Elite Level — For highly experienced pupils aiming for domestic and international competition.

  • Development Level — For pupils building their competence across all three disciplines, including those interested in racing.

Students can look forward to a challenging yet supportive environment where they can grow, as athletes and individuals.
