Equestrian
Dollar Academy pupils over the years have been successfully involved in various equestrian sports including show jumping, dressage, equestrian vaulting, hunter trials, eventing and tetrathlon.
As a school, we are proud to host and participate in equestrian events across Scotland and have pupils competing at an international level.
Overview
There are many benefits to taking part in the equestrian sports offered at Dollar. Equestrian training enhances physical fitness, building core, upper body, and leg strength.
It also fosters self-confidence, personal development, and teamwork, as pupils work both individually and collaboratively. Beyond the physical, it promotes social skills and supports mental well-being, making it a rewarding and well-rounded activity.
Training
Show Jumping training sessions are being held during Term 1 and 2 on Monday and Thursday evenings. Groups of 4 riders, on their own ponies or horses, are involved in one-hour sessions which are instructed by highly qualified riding instructors at Highfield Equestrian at Howe, which hosts numerous of Scotland’s National Equestrian Competitions.
Pupils in Junior 1 – Form VI can also take part in Horse Riding, a weekly club help at Shieldbank Stables. It takes place every Tuesday from 3.45pm – 5.30pm. All abilities are welcome.
Competitions
Dollar very successfully participates in both show jumping and dressage competitions.
This includes the Scottish Schools Competition, where we have achieved team first place several times, and Individual Scottish Champion for three consecutive years.
Dollar Academy is hosting an “Open” Show Jumping Competition in January 2026 which is open to all Schools, Pony Clubs and Riding Clubs. This event is inclusive to all levels, from novices to more experienced equestrians and we are looking forward to welcoming riders from all over Scotland.

Over the years, we have had a great amount of equestrian success, including:

- Scottish Champions – Individual Equestrian Vaulting
- Scottish Champions at Team Show Jumping
- Scottish Champions -Individual Show Jumping Winners
- Scottish Champions at Tetrathlon
- Internationalists in Tetrathlon, Show Jumping and Equestrian Vaulting
