Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate Frisbee offers a fast-paced and dynamic sporting experience, combining athleticism with teamwork and strategy.

Ultimate Frisbee Club is available for Form VI pupils only. Those looking to get involved can speak to Mr McEwan or attend a training session – no prior experience is necessary!

Overview

The Ultimate Frisbee Club at Dollar Academy is open exclusively to Form VI pupils and has been running since 2010.

As the only active school-based ultimate frisbee club in Scotland, Dollar competes primarily in university tournaments as well as select school events across the UK and Ireland. Each year, the club attracts a dedicated group of 20–25 pupils who train and compete throughout their final year at the school.

Coaching

From August to Easter, training takes place indoors in the Games Hall before moving outdoors to Newfield for the summer term.

Pupils receive weekly coaching from Mr McEwan, with occasional sessions led by external coaches from Scottish and British national teams, providing valuable insight and expertise.

Achievements

The club has been a regular competitor at the Scottish University Beginner Championship, held annually at the University of Edinburgh since 2011.

Dollar has claimed victory in this event twice (2017, 2020) and finished as runners-up in multiple years, most recently in 2024. The team has also competed in prestigious events such as the UK Schools National Championships and the Irish Schools Championships, where the U-18 girls’ team secured a commendable 5th-place finish in 2023.

Since the club’s inception, eight former players have gone on to represent Great Britain at World and European Championships, highlighting the strength of Dollar’s ultimate frisbee programme.
