Basketball

Basketball is becoming an increasingly popular sport at Dollar and is open to pupils throughout the Senior School.

Our teams train regularly, both on the courts and in the Strength & Conditioning gym, and play regular competitive matches throughout the year. Basketball players may be interested to know that Dollar has just established the Scottish Independent Schools Basketball League.

Overview

In the last three years, basketball has now developed to compete nationally at U-18 and U-15 level for boys teams.

This is a constantly growing area of the school with opportunities for younger pupils and girls to train and compete too. Pupils are coached by Mr Florence, with the possibility of more coaches joining in coming years.

Training

Basketball is currently run in two sessions.

Form I – III basketball train on a Tuesday after school, and the senior (Form IV – VI) team train before school on Tuesday and after school on Wednesday.

The PE department offer strength and conditioning training in the mornings for the senior team. Around 20 pupils attend each training session. All abilities are welcome and many key members of the team have started the sport as late as Form V and VI.

Fixtures

Basketball fixtures are rapidly expanding.

The senior team compete in the Scottish Cup and SISBA Cup. In the Scottish Cup over 50 teams across Scotland compete and the SISBA Cup had 17 teams in its inaugural year.

The U-15s compete in the Scottish Cup. Many friendlies and other tournaments (such as 3 v 3 tournaments) are arranged. In the 2024–25 season, Dollar played over 20 fixtures, with the senior team reaching the knockout stages of both the Scottish Cup and the SISBA Cup.
