Music
Our Music Department’s ethos is ‘Music for All’ and the range of activities we offer reflects this.
School Choirs
Singing is central to everything we do in the music department and we have several choirs to accommodate pupils of all ages and stages.
Our weekly rehearsals include Prep School Choir, Junior School Choir, Form I and II Choir, Senior Mixed Voice Choir and Chamber Choir. Repertoire is varied and represents the eclectic tastes of our choral directors and pupil members.
We ensure there are a number of performance opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.
Orchestras
We provide numerous opportunities for our instrumentalists too including: 2 Jazz Orchestras, Chamber Music groups (which vary year to year depending upon available instrumentalists), String Ensembles and Wind Bands for lower and senior school pupils, as well as an orchestra for each of the Prep and Junior Schools and two Senior School orchestras.
Music staff are always willing to create new ensembles to cater for pupil taste and Recorder Ensemble, Ukulele Group and Samba Band are only three of the activities that can be run as extras if numbers permit.
Music Instruction
Our team of visiting music instructors can supply individual one to one tuition on an array of instruments and/or voice, with lessons available from Prep 3 upwards (Form I for vocal tuition).
All pupils receiving instrumental or vocal lessons are encouraged to involve themselves as fully as possible in the co-curricular programme with a suggestion that all pupils should join at least one ensemble.
Those currently receiving tuition in school need not re-apply as lessons will continue until written notice is received.

Senior Musical
One of the biggest school events is the annual senior school musical and this coincides with the Dollar Academy sports weekend in June.
The full-scale production takes place at The Macrobert Arts Centre at Stirling University.
It is open to all pupils in Forms III – VI with auditions taking place before Easter to secure the coveted lead roles. Previous productions include: The Wedding Singer, Sister Act, Grease, Me and My Girl and Sunshine on Leith.
