Our Junior School (11-12yrs)
Welcome to Dollar Academy’s Junior School. Our Junior building is home to two key year groups, Junior 1 (Primary 6 equivalent) and Junior 2 (Primary 7 equivalent).
In our Junior School, we nurture curiosity, develop skills, and instil a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Small class sizes ensure that each child receives the support and attention they need to thrive, while our dedicated teachers bring learning to life through engaging lessons that blend the best of traditional methods with innovative, interactive approaches. The Junior School provides the stepping stones as our 10 and 11 year olds make the crucial transition to senior school life.
At Dollar Academy, we’re dedicated to inspiring young minds and building the skills and values that will guide our pupils throughout their lives.

Academic Curriculum
In the Junior School, pupils benefit from a hybrid timetable that blends lessons taught by their primary class teacher—covering English, Mathematics, RME, PSE, and ICT—with specialist-taught subjects in the wider school.
These include Art, Music, PE, Modern Languages, Laboratory Science, Engineering and Design Technology, Home Economics, and Computing.
Co-curricular
Participation in our co-curricular programme provides pupils with valuable opportunities to develop transferable skills that will support them through each stage of their education.
These activities help foster a well-rounded development, allowing children to explore their interests and build new skills in a supportive environment.
Boarding at Dollar
Our boarding community is at the very core of Dollar Academy, and it has been for over two hundred years.
We are rightly proud to be the world’s oldest co-educational day and boarding school, and we like to think that we have learnt more than a thing or two about looking after our boarders over the years. As such, boarding at Dollar Academy looks and feels different to many other schools.
Our Values
The core school values of “Work Hard, Be Kind, and Get Involved” are deeply embedded in every aspect of life in our Junior School.
The Junior School years are marked by growing independence and personal responsibility as pupils navigate a more complex timetable and build relationships with an increasing number of teachers.
Throughout this journey, their primary class teacher provides steady support, ensuring deadlines are met and, most importantly, that pupils are happy and thriving both socially and academically.
At Dollar, we place equal emphasis on wellbeing and intellectual development, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment both in our classrooms and in school life more broadly.
One of the key ways pupils embrace the value of “getting involved” is through participation in the many co-curricular clubs on offer.
These range from sports such as gymnastics, hockey, badminton, fencing, tennis, cricket, athletics, swimming, running, and football, to music activities including Junior Choir, Orchestra, Junior Jazz, and ukulele.
Beyond this, pupils can explore interests in enterprise, drama, art, craft, bridge, mindfulness, and more. There’s something for everyone, providing opportunities to grow, connect, and thrive.
