Join us for our Summer Triathlon Camp from 21 July –  25 July 2025, 9am – 5pm.

The Summer Triathlon Camp is open to boys and girls aged 12 to 18 years old. The camp will be led by Sean McFarlane, Head of Triathlon and qualified triathlon coach. He will be supported by other experienced coaches.

The camp will focus on improving the performance of participants in their swim, bike and run disciplines. We’ll ensure the children immerse themselves in the wonderful natural landscape we have in and around Dollar. We will also use many of the school’s own facilities, including the swimming pool, strength and conditioning unit, gym and fitness suite, working the weekly timetable around the weather. We’ll focus on keeping things fun and exciting whilst ensuring children feel that they are progressing with their triathlon abilities.

The swimming will be primarily pool based, although we’ll look to do some open water sessions too. The cycling will be on road but we will utilise traffic free cycle paths where needed. The running will be largely off road, from low level riverside trail runs to epic hill runs on top of the magnificent Ochils hills which form such a spectacular backdrop to the school itself.

Children can choose to either bring a packed lunch, or for an extra fee, have lunch provided by our external caterers in the dining hall. All children should bring their own snacks and drinks. Parents can choose to book the full week or individual days to suit busy family schedules.

All children taking part in this camp must be able to do all of the following:

–  Swim 400 metres in an indoor pool
– Cycle 15 km on open roads
– Run 3km

FAQs

  • What Kit Should I Bring?

Your child should bring kit and clothing that will enable them to take part in all activities provided. We recommend the following but will notify parents in advance of each day as to what kit to bring for the following day:

    – Swimming costume and goggles. It would also be preferable to bring swim aids ie pool buoy, flippers, paddles and floats, although the school does have a limited supply of these if needed.

    – Open water swimming kit: wetsuit, cap and goggles but this is not compulsory.

    – Full cycling kit: helmet, jersey, bib shorts, windproof/waterproof jacket, socks, cycling shoes, sufficient nutrition, puncture repair kit (which children should be able to use), water bottle.

    – Road worthy road bike. We do have a mechanic on hand but children should not arrive with a road bike that isn’t in good working order.

    – We do have bike hire available but would need to know if you require to hire a bike at least two weeks prior to the start of the camp.

    – Gym kit for indoor S&C sessions.

    – Off road running shoes, socks, shorts, technical t shirt and jacket. Buffs are also recommended. Children should also be prepared to bring sufficient nutrition and the means to carry this (eg bumbag/race vest, etc) but details of these will be dependent on ability and confirmed closer to the start of the camp.

    – Depending on the terrain, we may ask some children to look to bring fell shoes/more aggressive off-road shoes if they have them, but we will confirm that closer to the start of the camp.

    – Sunglasses and waterproof sunscreen (factor 50).

  • What are the drop off and pick up arrangements?

The camp will run from 9am to 5pm each day. Children should register between 8.45am -9am each morning with the Camp Leader at the swimming pool. They will also be required to register again at the start of the afternoon session.

All children must sign out of the camp at 5pm and let the Camp Leader know that they are leaving for the day.

  • Can I drop my bike off for the week?

Yes. We have made arrangements for secure storage for your bikes so you can drop them off on Monday morning and pick them up again on Friday at 5pm.

  • What if my child has medical or dietary needs?

When booking the course, you will have been asked for any medical or dietary information that we will need to know. If any of the information provided needs updating, please contact us before the course starts via summerschools@dollaracademy.org.uk.

Any medication brought to the school will need to be documented in the provided form that will be sent out at time of enrolment. This must provide details of what the medication is and the dosage. This medication will then be handed to the Course Leader on arrival and stored centrally for security. Any prescription medication will need to be in the original container with the pharmacy label.

  • What do the children do for lunch?

Children can either choose to bring their own packed lunch each day or, for an extra charge, choose to have lunch in our dining hall where catering is provided by our award-winning external partner Thomas Franks, who produce a wide range of healthy, locally sourced food.

If you would like your child to have lunch provided please choose the lunch inclusive option when booking. Dietary requirements will be requested on booking and notified to Thomas Franks.

All children should bring their own snacks and drinks. The children will be supervised during their lunch time and can refill water bottles on campus.

  • What are the rules on mobile phones and technology devices?

Mobile phones are not to be used in any way during the sessions and will only be accessible at break times. Phones should be safely stored in kit bags and switched off or on silent. Please do not bring any valuables to the camp unless they are strictly necessary for the day ahead. Dollar Academy cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property whilst on the camp.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at summerschools@dollaracademy.org.uk
